Fears and Doubts

"Some say if only my fears and doubts will leave then I will get to work. But instead you should get to work and then your fears and doubts will leave." - Dwight L. Moody

With a little bit of fear and trepidation, I have signed up for my first 10K. For most of you (maybe even ALL of you), it won't seem like much of a milestone, but you have to realize that I haven't been in this as long as you all have. I did a grand total of six 5Ks and one Sprint Tri in 2006. I can add one more 5K to the list if we look back to 2005. Before that...nada.

What fears am I chasing down exactly? I guess I'm concerned that my slownest and general lack of athletic ability will be exposed for what they are.

But you know what? I could let that stop me from experiencing a lot of things that I intend to do this year. Bah humbug, I say! Instead, I choose to chase down this fear. Finish line, here I come!!!

  1. Lisa,

If u can do a sprint, your aerobic capacity can handle a 10 k.

Once u go up to 10 k....then the fun really begins.

I like your quote from Dwight L. Moody. How true.

    Thanks for visiting my site.

  2. Thanks for visiting my site, too! Hi, Cliff!
I read your profile and you sounded so much like me I wondered if we had been seprated at birth, but then I applied my supreme math skills and figured that was impossible. Slow is the new fast.

p.s. - you are already ready for a 10K - it only takes about an hour and I imagine your sprint tri took a lot longer than that.

  3. Congratulations on signing up for your first 10k. I did my first one this year and was scared out of my mind but then I realized - crossing the starting line is what success is all about because there are millions of people who never have the guts to even make it that far. Sounds like we've got a bit of the same exercise background. Can't wait to hear how it all turns out.

  4. "Triathlon newbie?" Sounded a bit like a contradiction to me, so I went back to your first post in September, when you were in a funk about what you had or had not accommplished. Wish I could claim so much. Just the courage to take on three sports at once, instead of just one, is impressive.

    We are almost neighbours :).

  5. I know the fear - I've had it myself. You'll do great - you've been training consistently and once the race starts, all fear will be gone!!!

  6. They say a liitle bit of fear is healthy. It would not mean as much after you finish it. The 1st step is signing up, then rest will be easier (hopefully anyays). You will do great, just have a plan and it will fall into place.

Just remember after 3rd place everybody gets the same thing. Prize wise.
