"30 min" is the first official workout on my half-marathon training plan. It's intended to be a 30 of the min run-walk-run fashion. I originally thought that I would substitute in a 30 minute walk, but after talking with my orthopedic last Thursday, I decided to opt for 30 min with the bike on the trainer. It's a better workout and it's what she recommended it for my knee. And I should add, there is no way I can get my cycle shoes on quite yet (toe still swollen), otherwise I probably would have taken the bike outside.
So that's what I did. 30 long, miserable, sweaty, boring, hot minutes.
Gosh, I have no idea how any of you can stand running on a treadmill or riding on a stationary bike. So boring! I put my ipod on, but even the music didn't help the minutes tick away any faster.
It's going to be a long 4-6 weeks waiting for my knee become run-ready. Sigh.
And, because I don't take myself too seriously, I did a silly selfy a la "Rosie We Can Do It" once I was done with my ride. Okay, maybe it's not that similar, but if you know what I'm talking about, you'll at least see what I was attempting. Hahahah.
If you are a treadmill or bike-trainer or similar such person, please share your best ideas on how to make it more interesting. THANKS!
I feel your pain with the treadmill...not a fan! Hope you have a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteseems like nobody is a fan!
DeleteI head off boredom by changing the pace every freaking minute. And cover the display. And watch TV. And perhaps swear. A lot.
ReplyDeleteyour comment made me laugh. a lot.
DeleteI totally agree - stationary bikes and treadmills have to be the most boring things ever. But they're sometimes a necessary evil. And I guess they're good in helping train your brain to endure.
ReplyDeletei hadn't thought about it being good at training the brain to endure. i think i'm failing on that front. hahahahah
DeleteYup - inside stinks. I've found that upping the font on my Kindle and getting lost in a good book helps tremendously! Good job on pushing through!
ReplyDeletereading is a good idea. i'll try that. THANKS!
DeleteSwimming laps is boring. Running on the TM is boring but doable. Lots to look at, listen to music, meet the challenge. Bike trainers are the worst. I didn't set mine up this year.
ReplyDeleteI haven't set mine up for years. Sigh. But at least it is *something* that I can do. I just wish it wasn't so boring!
DeleteI used to have a treadmill - movies help! I like your new blog background!
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I'm looking at your blog with a new computer and that might be why it looks different! I do like the background, though.
DeleteIt's a new-ish background. Probably due to looking at it on a different computer. It looks different when I use my tablet, for example
DeleteI hate treadmills and stationary bikes too. For the treadmill, I find it far more interesting (and a bit more justifiable) if I do intervals, and maybe something similar could work for a bike? Otherwise reading on a bike works for me!
ReplyDeleteintervals is a good idea
DeleteHowever this is a begin. Keep on training.
ReplyDeleteI have stationary and treadmill but I hate them. Only the music helped me when I had to use them (I was recovering from a bad fracture). Better the storm than the dreadmill!!!
I like your photo!!!!!
Happy New Year to you and family
yes, it is a start. Thanks and happy new year to your family as well!
DeleteI set up a laptop in front of the treadmill and watch free shows on hulu.com. godd showscare the biggest loser ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that would work well on my bike. :-/
DeleteFor the turbo sessions I have two aides; 1. TV (or laptop) catch up on some of my fav programmes (really crap but engaging soaps!)... and 2. I have just resigned up to "TrainerRoad" who sort of give you turbo sessions to do (intervals and stuff).. if you have a garmin sensor on your bike may be worth looking into their monthly subscription is very reasonable.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure the tv/laptop thing will work too well. But maybe I should try it
ReplyDeleteI found the bike trainer a million times more boring than Spin class, which I like. It's the social aspect and the constant change.
ReplyDeleteOn the treadmill, I have to play with speed and intervals or I die of boredom.
Swimming laps can be dull but I like swimming with my masters' group. I'm not good at getting in the pool on my own.
I'm such a bad triathlete!
