More Misc.

I've had big time motivation issues for the past few weeks. I hope tomorrow I wake up feeling like going to swim as per my training plan. I haven't been to the pool in ages. That lake swim panic issue really turned me off to swimming. I keep thinking, what's the point?!?!? Another mental hurdle to overcome.

Husband agreed to run the Cherry Garcia 10K with me in a few weeks. He hasn't been training for a 10K and may end up walking quite a bit, but I'm glad that he's willing to join me on that one. It's a Sunday evening race with pizza and ice cream afterwards. We have a lot of 'real life stuff' going on that I haven't blogged about, so I hope this turns out to be a fun distraction for both of us.

One more pic of the same corner of Son's room now that it is mostly back together. I think it turned out nice and seems appropriate for a young man. :)

  4. I am having much trouble with the swim motivation as well. I was asking myself why I can't flip the switch to get going on it. I hope you are re-motivated soon!

  5. son's room looks really good, well done all of you! I'm not surprised aero bars are hard at first - I had enough trouble getting used to handlebar-mounted gears!
Maybe it's a phase of the moon thing with the motivation? everyone I know is in a bit of a slump. Maybe we can all help heave each other out of it. Or maybe you're just a bit tired?

  7. Open water swimming makes everybody panic in the beginning. Hopefully there is a place you can do that once in awhile, It helps alot just to get out there.

    It will get easier :).

  8. Nice looking room!

Sorry if you're feeling unmotivated, it sure doesn't look that way from the outside- you just finished that Olympic recently.

I hope the 10k is just what you're looking for and that everything else turns out fine.

  12. hang in there lisa, my motivation waxes and wanes too. its part of the process.

the swim thing is hard - i had the same type problem my first race and it scarred me for a while. i also thought - whats the point? you just have to get back up, dust yourself off and get back on that horse. the next time will be easier, i promise.

    your son's room looks great!

  13. You enjoyed swimming before the open water deal, so you just got to get back into the pool.
I think I'm agreeing with Ibtepa, about the slump thing - kinda there myself.

You got a lot of other stuff going on, so give yourself a break. Didn't you give me similar advice in the recent past...

  14. Aerobars take time so take your time. swimming huh? well just look at us human beings. We're not meant to be in the water. we're terrestrial beings not aquatic. that said, I agree it's just a short slump. you'll be back stronger than before, really.

  15. Nice room. Good to have that out of the way. The swim panic thing can happen to anyone at any time, but the more comfortable you are in open water, with people around you besides, the better you will adjust to it. Personally, I hate it when anyone even touches me, but I have learned to try to avoid the big mass swims at the front and start from the back and work my way up and around as many people as possible. It just takes more experience, and its almost guaranteed the first one will be a panic. Your first race was a long swim, and proportionately the longer the swim the more comfortable you get by the end. You just need to give it time and keep tri-ing.

  16. Very cool room! He should be pleased.

Take the pressure off the swim and just go to the pool and splash around a bit. Maybe walk up and down a lane a couple of times. I'm betting that once you are in the water, you will be fine. I have always found the pool to be very comforting. Open water just takes a lot of practice to get comfortable...but if I can get through it, anyone can. Don't forget, you didn't fail in your last open water swim, you finished the whole thing, that is a victory!
