Unprepared

I am now 10 days out from the Patriot Sprint Tri. The web site describes the course as follows:

"Seeded serpentine style swim + 14 mile hilly bike ride + 5K hilly run. Run is partially on dirt roads."

For a short event, it's actually a tough little course. I would think that it would be wise for someone training for this to do a lot of hill work.

So....what has my week looked like from a workout perspective?

* Sunday - swim
* Monday - swim
* Tuesday - run (flat 4.1 mi)
* Wednesday - skipped bike ride (would have been hilly)
* Thursday - run (flat 5.2 mii)

Yeah. I'm not the role model for training wisely for this event. One might even go so far as to say that I'm going into it unprepared.

As such, I'm predicting that my experience with this race is going to SUCK.

If you are predicting anything else, I suggest you go back to the top of this post, re-read the course description and my pitiful training thus far. If you still predict something else, it may be wise for you to have your head examined.

What's on deck?

* Friday I truly hope that I find my self doing the cycle to the gym and back thing and then add a stand-alone bike loop on top of that. That will at least give me some hill practice.
* Long run Saturday.
* Swim Sunday
* Longish bike ride with Husband Monday (weather permitting).

  1. Don't sell yourself short lady. Just take the race nice and easy. I have a feeling you are going to do fine! (Maybe even surprise yourself!)

    Good luck.

  2. Hmmmmmm. Maybe you're nervous instead of unprepared? I think once you get there and everything is going on, you'll fall right into place. Okay, maybe you won't place THIS TIME but I hope you will still have a good time. ;)

  3. Maybe you should look at the event as a training one, rather than a race?

  5. Going into it with realistic expectations is smart, but I think you have enough training behind you that you'll do just fine!

  6. You and me kid. I have a race the same day. My saving grace is a flat bike and run course. Maybe we will both do better than we think. Then have a beer and rest on our laurels...ha!

  7. You'll do great! It's not like you've never run up a hill before. It's in there some place, you just need to find it. :o)

  8. Don't be too hard on yourself. Do it for the experience! Don't worry about your time just do it!

  9. You still have 10 days to prepare yourself mentally and physically. It may not suck.

  11. I think you'll be okay! Do a little bit of hills in the next 10 days but don't over do it. You'll be fine :)

  13. While you may not have your best race ever, I bet you'll be surprised at how well you do. You've got a really good base of fitness.

  14. I think your training looks pretty good, but then again, this is coming from someone who did her bike training on an upright stationary in the gym while reading magazines :)

  15. Hilly sounds hard! I'm sure you'll have plenty of extra endorphins on race day to help you pull trough well. Just be sure to breathe during transition and set yourself up well for the next leg of the race - I have confidence that you'll be great!
