Fact of the Day

Black widows are nocturnal. Only the female black widow bites humans, and she bites only when disturbed.

Apparently a female had taken residence on our hot tub patio and was 'disturbed' by Husband. She has since been evicted...permanently. He had a very uncomfortable local reaction, but nothing too serious.

  8. in general, i welcome spiders as they take care of other nasty insects. i didn't know that there were black widows in our area...and never thought any might be living on our property...until Sunday night.

  9. We probably have a dozen black widows living around our property at any one time. They keep the crickets and scorpions at bay. We do spray for them but they come back very fast.

I have never known anyone to get a bite by a black widow even living here all these years. I am glad DH is ok! How scary!

  10. Ugh, I don't like spiders. Although we just watched Charlotte's Web last weekend, which was a cute movie.
