Uggh

My body hates me!!

My skeletal frame is built like an upside down triangle. Wider shoulder, narrow hips. This is NOT how a woman is supposed to be built. I've very happy that my daugther inherited some other woman's frame. Her proportions looks good. Mine are just wrong. I have no womanly curves. This is not to say that my body is totally devoid of curves, but let me assure you, they aren't womanly.

I carry my weight in the mid-section. I guess that makes me "thick in the middle". It's really hard to find clothes that fit when you are 42yrs old, shaped like an upside down triangle that's bulging in the middle. Clothing manufacturers expect women to have hips. And those that don't are supposed to have skinny waists. I don't fit in either of those scenarios. Nothing fits.

I've gained 8 lbs in the past two months. I gave up ice cream a few weeks ago and STILL gained another lb after that. Ugggh.

My bike jersey (to be unveiled) arrived and I'm thinking up trading up from a MEDIUM to a LARGE because I'm thick in the middle and it's tight. Sigh.

I wanted to order a hydration belt of some sort and needed to measure my waist/hips to figure out the size. Either my measuring tape shrunk in the wash, or I'm getting even THICKER in the middle. I'm not ordering this or any other clothing item until I lose some weight!!

  1. Oh no!
    Boo!
I suppose all you can do is keep on keeping on at doing the rights things and trust that it will come good in due course

  2. How frustrating! I've been through the same thing over the last few years. I think it has something to do with getting OLDER! The only answer I can give you that seems to work for me is to do more running (which right now I am NOT doing). That always seems to keep the weight off and help with the stomach bulging. I had gotten to where I could do 5 days in a row of easy to moderately hard 30 min. runs and was finding the most improvement doing batch running like that. Mixed in with the biking of course.

  3. Never let the sizing of athletic stuff get you down...my HRM strap is M-XL, and I didn't like seeing an XL anything!

  4. Broad shoulders thats the mark of a swimmer, so don't fret about it..

Also all that spandex/cycling gear is always small, european sizes, always helps to get one size larger unelss you like tight clothes.

  5. GUH!!!! I sympathize with the frustration! What's your food breakdown like (minus the ice cream)?

  6. I dunno. An upside down triangle can be sexy :-) What does hubby say in his unbiased opinion ;-)

  7. I have a problem with women's clothing too. I have a small waist and a large (or shall we say athletic) butt and thighs. I literaly wear two sizes smaller on my waist than my butt will allow!
I saw "What not to wear" enough to know to fit the largest part and get it taylored from there
The taylor and I have become friends...all of my current pants have had the waist taken in!

  8. Ugh Sorry about the major frustration with the weight. But I do have to agree with BrendaJ...anything remotely spandexy I've got to get like 10 sizes bigger than normal.

  9. Okay. After a reasonable night's sleep this seems pretty simple. When calories in > calories out, lbs are gained. I simply need to reverse the equation (and more running is a good idea as a start).

The upside down triangle shape will be easier to deal with once my midsection bulge is back under control.

  12. I too have the same problem. I have started buying men's bike jerseys because the womens do not fit my shoulders.

  13. Well, you've certain given me some perspective. I've spent the last couple weeks feeling like crap, looking in the mirror, wishing I was built more like a greyhound and less like a stripper. I've got more curves than I'd like, plenty of hips, and my problem is that while women's clothes fit me women's athletic gear does NOT. Athletic women are not supposed to have a butt like mine. Yet, despite my hips, waist, and butt, here I am: doing athletic stuff, often in XL despite being a size 10/12, just so I can breathe. I blame men. It's probably not their fault, but I have to blame somebody...

  15. argh. although, i am here to attest that ALL bike jerseys fit strangely. I think they are made for stick people. I am ALWAYS a large in them... sometimes bordering on XL.

  16. I bet you look great...we are our own worse critics! Don't let one jersey throw you off!

  17. I don't think your body hates you, most likely the other way round.

I have the same problem. My shoulders are broad, my hips not much to speak off, my waist unpronounced. I think of it as androgynous charm, he, he.

I am cool with that. I just hate my body for different reasons. We women are pathetic. We could just make peace with who we are.

  18. I have the exact opposite problem - small waist but gigantic hips, thighs and butt. (Presently my hips are 14" bigger than my waist (instead of the "perfect" 10" and my 2 thighs together are 2 inches bigger than that!) Anything that fits below is HUGE in the waist and usually taking it in doesn't work because the proportions are all wrong. I have very narrow sloping shoulders too, so most tops just sag. It's not our fault - we KNOW that in our heads, it's the clothing designers' fault for using one fit model for all clothes for all women, not a variety. A few stores have tried to address that over the years but it's not profitable for them, I guess!
