THIS & THAT

THIS - At the gym, some random guy made a comment while I was doing upper body weight stuff that I was "solid." My initial reaction was "thanks" but as I thought about it more, I'm really not sure what it meant or why he felt compelled to share. Mentioned it to one of my co-workers. He laughed. His wife is from England and he says that "solid" means "dense" and is more of an insult. I also mentioned it to Husband and he laughed saying it was something he's used to decribe our dog. Bandit is "solid." Great. I'm solid like the dog. LOL. So...still not quite sure what to make of that. Hopefully the guy will keep his comments to himself in the future! Creepy!

THAT - I was actually able to do something that resembled running today. As prescribed by my PT, I included the following workout on the treadmill (while being mindful of my knee position): 5 mins walk, 5 mins easy run, 5 mins walk, 5 mins easy run, 5 mins walk. I experienced no knee pain, so I get to repeat on Thursday. It's a slow and steady comeback - just my style.

  1. Slow & steady is good rehab :)

Huh. I thought "solid" was like "strong work" or something along those lines.

  2. LOL! Solid like the dog! Oh no!

I'm sure he was just hitting on you in a crappy, idiotic way (like most guys). Sometimes they have no clue.

Way to go on the comeback.

  5. Hmm, I often refer to my kids as "solid" - they look slender, but they are all muscle and surprisingly heavy. I'm not sure if I'd find it a complement or an insult LOL.

Yay for a slow and steady comeback!

  6. Yay! I'm so glad you are able to run a little again :)

Sorry about solid-man...some people are just weird. :)

  7. FWIW, I think he was paying your a compliment. I had a guy last week that said, "your last set was solid." That means he was watching me the whole time, and gave me a creepy smile. The 5 min. intervals sound awesome, keep it up.

    Stay focused......

  8. Congrats on the running work, glad it's coming along for you.

I think I would have taken the "solid" as a compliment. As opposed to the opposite- "jiggly" or soft. Although a bit odd to comment to a random person, I think it was well intentioned.

  9. LOL... Solid, Solid as a rock (I am singing that 80's song) I am sure he was jealous of your awesome arms.

Nice job easing back into running. You will be back before you know it.

  11. I bet the guy meant it as a compliment -- like you're strong -- but still, some comments definitely should be kept inside.

  12. I agree with "rock solid" and yes it would be a compliment, especially if you had been at the upper body workout for a while...good work on the rehab efforts too...slow and steady is good...but then some of us are just naturally "slow and steady"...

I've had to restart a blog Lisa same old slow Randy, just a different look....

  14. I think it's a compliment. Someone called me solid recently in reference to my last race and I took it to mean consistent and strong. There was an interesting post on Mizfit.com that talked about compliments and how some people take them negatively even through they're meant to be positive. It seems to have to do a lot with self perception.

Wonderful to hear about your recovery progression!

  15. I always thought solid meant muscular (not in a body builder way but you know, like you're fit) I think it was a good thing :-)

  16. Ha! You and the hubby are too funny!

I'm with Marcy - I think the guy meant it as a compliment :-)

  18. I wouldn't confuse American slang with English slang. That's probably the only way our respective versions of english can get you into trouble!

  19. I think that it was a compliment. You must have looked cut while you were working out. Don't worry, he liked what he saw. LOL!!

  20. Yeah, who knows what he meant? I'm thinking I've heard solid referring to looking good. I'd go with that. :D

  21. Boys should just never be allowed to talk a girl unless they clear what they're going to say with another girl first. :o)

I'm sure "solid" = "strong" in the best sense of the word.

  22. "Solid" ... hmmm... I immediately picture some dude from the 90's trying to be cool. :)

    Yay for the comeback!

  23. I am pretty confident that "solid" was intended as an unequivocally good compliment. Solid as in your lifting impressed him as strong, impressive, high quality work. Having said that... it's still creepy.

  24. Solid... I even thought it was a possible compliment prior to reading the rest of the paragraph. geez.

Glad to hear you were able to do some running today!
