Two more strength sessions in the books. After my latest increasing of weights, my palms are getting all chewed up and I'm either gonna' end up with nice calluses or ugly blisters if I don't go out and get some weight gloves. It's all good though! I feel like that's just another indication that I'm really making progress.
It's worth mentioning that I have been the only woman in the gym at the small fitness center that I go to in the morning (at least at the time that I go) for the entire time that I've been going there. It used to make me feel weak and silly when I thought about what I was doing compared to those muscular men. It took awhile, but I don't worry about that anymore. At this point, I have come to the conclusion that most people at the gym really take much more than a passing glance at the other people there unless they are using the machine that they want to use. We're all just there to do whatever we set out to do for the day; getting that done is the focus, the people at the gym are just distractions.
Get the gloves! They make you feel all tough :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree about the gym. Not that I have been in a while but that is how it used to be.
ReplyDeleteYeah you're right about the gym thing... and I bet some of those tough guys are spending more time looking in the mirror at themselves rather then anyone else ;o)
ReplyDeleteMy gym is PACKED at the moment (post Christmas enthusiasts!)
Oh yes and get the gloves!!!
Great job keeping up with the weights! I almost talked myself out of lifting this week, and then I thought about your consistency...so I went.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a motivator :)
Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI was so scared of the free weight section of the gym until I worked at one and realized the people that I was "scared" of are soo occupied with themselves that they probably would have never known I was there! Funny!
ReplyDeleteTake Care
I agree w/ lbtepa about the gloves. I went to Dick's Sporting Goods for mine. Can't remember the brand name but they WORK! Before that I was getting callouses on my palms like you. Mine are washable too.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree w/ you about the gym. When I first started going several years ago I felt self-conscious but I quickly realized that everyone there to get their sweat on & pretty much ignore you unless you using something that they want.
First, definitly get the gloves. They make all the difference in the world and even professional bodybuilders use them.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right about the gym. Nobody cares about what you are doing, they are all worried about how they look to you. They are guys after all. We are a weird bunch. ;-)
Impressive and inspirational YOU!!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about callouses. Just think. The gloves will make you look like an expert too!
ReplyDeleteGetting the gloves is a good sign of progress!
ReplyDeleteGreat job-people with gloves really impress me. People who do weights also impress me.
ReplyDeletePushing myself to do weights is the hardest thing. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteI used to call the free weight room at my gym "the testosterone room" and it intimidated me terribly.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap. My palms are smoothe as silk. :D I must not be lifting enough. jk. I'm hitting the weights too.
ReplyDeleteGood for you. We'll be calling you Hardbody soon. :D Maybe we should have a plank - off?
I think the gloves will make you look like a total expert - I'm always intimidated when I see people lifting in gloves!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I love being the only woman in the gym...it's quite the statement. Lately there are more because of the New Year...and there are still those young things that just watch their boyfriends work out. (Huh? Are there still those kinds of ladies? I guess so...wierd!)
ReplyDeletePersonally I have just let the callouses build-the weight gloves seemed to inhibit my grip on dumbells/barbells. But maybe it's just me....be sure to at least try some. Or I could send you mine, as I just bought them and wore them for half a workout! Let me know!
I went into the free weight section the other week. Some of the guys after I had finished plodding about asked me if I needed any assistance to ask and they would be happy to show me. I was like, 'ah okay men of brick' and they wave at me know.
ReplyDeleteStrange, yet true.
I hear you with the gloves. My hands used to get beat down if I didn't use them with the rower.
ReplyDeleteYea! Get gloves!! Nothing worse than a women's hard hands :-) Just sayin ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou are a weight training inspiration! Woo hoo!!
Being in the weight room intimidates me a little bit, but I'm working on getting over that.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes have no patience for weights. I just don't like to sit there between reps and what not. But, I have been getting back into it and remember how much I love the after shock!
ReplyDeleteI lifted last night, but fill the slight soreness in my shoulder blades, pecs, and along the ribs when I move my arms! No Pain...no Gain!
