working my way out of a slump

Ladies and gentlemen, I've been in a slump for the past month and a half and I hereby declare my intentions of fighting my way out of it.

No sleeping in, no blowing it off because it's too hot, no excuses about not enough time, no complaining that I'm so slow it doesn't matter if I train or not. One way or another, I'm dragging this body off the couch and outside for some exercise.

I've had three encouraging days so far. Short run (2mi) on Thu with Bandit. Swam (1600) then biked a few errands on Fri (9mi). Biked an errand today (9.5mi). Lame, yes. But I'm off the couch and I'm counting it as success. Everything begins somewhere, right?

Tomorrow - 6 miles by foot - run/walk/crawl...whatever it takes!!

  1. That's the only way to do it!! Having been there many times myself, just the act of moving makes it better. Do little bits till you feel like doing more. It works!! Keep plugging along.

  2. Good for you! I know how hard it is sometimes to push through these times, but you seem determined and things will click if you keep at it. I know you are capable of doing all you desire. You've proven yourself already.

  3. If you would like, I will volunteer to come with a bullhorn and yell at you while training to push harder, throw some cold water to make you get out of bed, crack a whip behind you when you run from a Segway... you know, all that stuff "friends" do (evil laugh)

    :)

Sounds like you are on the right track, though. Just keep pushing yourself and you will get there.

  4. You can definitely do it. Hey, 9 miles for a biking errand is not bad at all. You were good to the environment too!

  10. I'm right there with you - can't decide if I'm sick or if it's all mental (and shoe trouble.) But I'm getting out there today, I swear!

  11. Good for you, it is hard to get out there sometimes.

I have this 5 minute rule. I'll start training for at least 5 minutes, then decide to quit if I want, it alwyas worksout that I feel better and do the trainig.

  12. No matter how small it may seem, it is still something you can build on. Good job!

  13. My 5 1/2 miler today didn't quite get to a crawl, but there was some good walking involved.

    Hope yours went better.

  15. I managed 6.85miles this morning.

That's a tad over half a half-marathon, a quarter-marathon, if you will. I was s-l-o-w, but it felt good. I need to remember that good feeling next time I don't feel like doing anything (which is likely to be tomorrow).

  16. Hey, you say 'lame' like it's a bad thing LOL!
One thing that gets me going is a little training chart (usually hidden behind my study door) - nothing too elaborate or challenging but that I can cross off in red texta, so satisfying!
BTW when were you in Melbourne?

  17. Getting started is half the battle. You'll be back in training before you know it. So when is the next race? :-)

Killer smile on your son. Forget about rose coloured glasses, look at the world thru His eyes, and everything will look brighter and full of promise! :)

  18. Hi Lisa - you have a deal! We are now official virtual training buddies for the month! You did a great run yesterday, I didn't make it that far... my plan for today is run at lunchtime (challenging cos it's at work but still), then going to try and get to an open water swim tonight.

"FOCUS, FEEL IT, ENJOY IT." :o)
