Could it be?

This morning I got up a half hour early (which is much more reasonable than stupid o'clock) so that I could do my 5 mile run before work.

The plan was 5 miles easy and I was out there running to dawn's early light. The sun didn't fully pop up over the mountains until I was almost back home

Everything about this morning was perfect. It was a cool 51 degrees, slight breeze. I felt the air on my face, listened to the rustling of the leaves along the ditch bank, and realized just how good it is to be alive.

None of the stresses of daily life were out on the trail with me this morning. No pressure to hit a particular pace. No pain, no worries. It was peaceful.

I chose to wear my fuel belt for a change just to practice with it again. I barely noticed that it was there. And I never felt the need to reach down for the nuun I was carrying. I also never felt compelled to check my Garmin for pace.

This run, on this morning, was about moving and living and breathing and enjoying every bit of the experience. The kind of running that I enjoy most.

What's amazing is that my pace was a full 40sec per mile faster than a similar run last week *and* 10sec/mile faster overall than my run Tuesday (when I powered up the hill at the end).

Could it be that things are finally coming together?

  2. OMG, you had the same run as I did, right down to the fuel belt and nuun!!

It was 48˚F here, but it felt great!

Tell, me, How do you keep your fuel belt from riding up constantly? I have a hunch it has to do with the fabric I am wearing (I had some cw-x tights on this morning).

Glad your run was as wonderful as mine.

  3. "This run, on this morning, was about moving and living and breathing and enjoying every bit of the experience. The kind of running that I enjoy most." Love that statement.. So I truly ENJOY my runs along the Orting trail, where I take the PRETTY pictures...but the trail is FLAT.. I KNOw that my Marathon suffered because I did not get enough hills on my LONG runs...but?? I struggle with running for pleasure vs. running for training.. Nice to know that there are days when both connect.

  9. Wow. This run sounds like it was special (and not Church Lady "special").

A run with those feelings and mindset is what it is all about. Part of me is jealous, another part of me is hopeful that I'll be able to have such a great run, but mostly I'm happy for you.

  10. Runs like that are the absolute best. There's nothing better than a run where everything comes together and it feels like you're running on air!

  11. These are my favorite runs, when you just RUN and don't worry about a thing and look at the final result and see how beautiful it really was.
