Working through it

My sister and I have known for many months that our father’s time was short. What neither of us knew was how much it would affect us emotionally when it happened.

As it turns out, we make a good team. She was the stoic one making the difficult decisions in the beginning while I was breaking down. It began to get easier for me, and we worked together on decisions regarding the handling of his remains. Then her emotions kicked in. I took the lead and wrote the obituary.

There is more to be done in the coming days and weeks. We will each do what we can when we can and lean on each other when we can't. There will be no need to apologize for what either of us did or didn’t or could or couldn’t do. In the end, it will all be okay.

At this point, I am emotionally and physically exhausted. I'm unsure whether I will choose to participate in the Patriot Tri tomorrow or not. And that is okay too.

Please know that you've helped tremendously simply by letting me know that you care. Thank you.

  18. I've arrived late to the game, so not sure what you did this weekend about your race.

I am sure you did what you needed to do to help yourself and that is the only thing that counts. It's nice when you have a sister to "tag team" with. My sis and I had to do that when our other sister died and my parents couldn't keep it together.

I hope your family finds peace.

  20. Dear Lisa, my condolences on your loss. But you are right, it was his time to go and for that, there is nothing you could've or should've done differently. I think it's great that you and your sis are able to support each other through this difficult time. Things will get easier, trust me.

  22. oh lisa I am just catching up and I am so sorry I haven't been here to lend support and just let you know you are in my prayers. I can't say I know what you are going through, but I know that every loss is hard and you are very lucky to have a sibling to remember the good times with you

  23. You are lucky to have a sister who can be strong with you.. When the time comes for my parents I will have to be the STRONG one...whether I want to be or not. Grieve and lean on those close to you. You are in my prayers.
