For every thing there is a season....

I got the first call while I was at work this morning. Dad hasn't been doing well since April, but this today was different. He was tired of fighting. He didn't want to do this anymore. He was asking if they could just give him something to make him comfortable. They tried to give him oxygen and he took off the mask. They were asking for the family to say it was okay. I didn't know what to say. Called my sister. She talked with the nurse. Satisfied that he was alert and well aware of what he was asking, she told them we were okay with it. We wanted to respect his wishes. I couldn't just sit there in my office crying. I packed up and left. Didn't tell anyone why I was leaving. I wondered if it was normal to start the greiving process while someone was still alive. I cried. Then I just waited. About eight hours after the first call, came the second. Dad had passed away. Now they want to know what to do with the body. Again, I don't know what to say. I called my sister. She says she'll take care of it. And she'll call me back later. I'm sick of crying. My eyes hurt. My head hurts. Everything about this just sucks.

  13. Oh dear. I have no idea what to say or where to even start. I know that's a very HARD thing to go through, but you have to find peace and reassurance that he's in Heaven now. He's no longer sick, he's no longer hurting, and he's up there having a good time and waiting for YOU to come and join him. He may not be here in the flesh, but he's always with you. *hugs*

  28. I am not sure how I have missed your posts lately. I am so sorry for your loss. We lost several family members in 2007, 7 total. I remember when my grandma was in the hospital that I was grieving because it was not her. The Dementia and illness had taken over so much that it was no longer her..

I cannot imagine what it must feel like to lose your father and I am truly sorry
