Just Roll with It

Remember I was going to see the Trainer guy so he could push me through my core stuff? Well I showed up Wednesday morning and happened to mention that my muscles were a little tight and wanted to stretch first.

Out of nowhere, the foam roller appeared. When this happens, my friends, be afraid. Be very afraid. Trainer guy tortured me with that evil piece of foam for the entire session.

Oh.the.PAIN. Apparently, the more it hurts, the more you need it. Either that or he just enjoys watching his clients' reactions when they roll over those tight spots.

Having survived the session, the weirdest thing happened. I felt noticably less tense. It was amazing. Maybe rolling isn't so bad after all.

The evil device must have lured me with some sort of trickery. Guess who's all giddy because Husband has his hands on a foam roller and is bringing it home this evening?

  6. I'm glad he doesn't see my stretching routines...or lack there of lately. He would have to foam roller me for 24 hours to get these muscles loose

  9. YES! I put Mr. Tea through that torture. It is true that the more you need it, the more it hurts.

Check out some of the youtube videos on how to do the stretches correctly. Also, you can adapt the exercises until you are able to do them correctly.

  13. You did the whole session on the foam roller and then were crazy enough to buy one? Holy cow!

When I was using it for my knee (IT band issues) I was panting and practically crying, my husband came in and said "you MUST be doing that wrong. It can't be meant to hurt that much."

    You crazy!

p.s thanks for the support on the in-law nightmare. It was a tough few days.

  17. Ouch, ouch, ouch! Foam rollers are BRUTAL. They do seem to do the job though. Nice workouts this week :-) You have a great balance going there.

  20. Okay, I guess I'm going to be the single voice of dissent. I did the foam roller thing when I had my horrible IT band issues, and it did nothing for me. I practically bled out my eyes using that stupid thing, and only go better when I stopped using it, switched BACK to my old shoes, and started doing different stretches. I hope it works for you, though. It has a large fan base.

  21. Just catching up Lisa, sounds like you need a weekend at a spa!

I hear you about being "enchanted" with working out right now. Here I am, Sunday morning 6:30am, not looking forward to 12K.

However, the Wooo Hooo Du will be fun!

  22. Hmmm... I have never experienced that, and judging by what you wrote, I probably never will. Pain and me don't get along too well. =)

  23. I have only seen the foam roller in a demonstration and it looked innocent enough.....it wasn't until I saw the look on the person's face that it was a form of torture. LOL I am glad it helped you.
