Slow Six

I was supposed to run 6 yesterday, but it was raining in the morning and then on & off all afternoon. All I could get motivated for was Yoga.

My "alarm cat" went off at 5:45. She has grown accustomed to a 4:30am feeding (Husband gets up crazy early on weekdays) and having not been fed by the time the sun came up, she was concinved she was starving to death. After ten minutes of being jumped on, nudged, and meowed at, I figured I should just get up and go for a run.

It wasn't raining, but still wet outside. The skies were overcast and it was about 55 degrees. Nice conditions for running, if you ask me, so that was the plan.

It's about three quarter miles from my front door to the ditch bank. It was a bit muddy due to the rain, but still a decent surface for running.

My plan for the day was 6 easy miles with short walk breaks every mile. I wanted to put in the distance, but take it easy on my body so as not to further aggravate the hammy.

I was hoping to get an interesting picture every time I took a walk break, but for the most part it all looks the same! The only somewhat interesting photo that I got was this pair of horses.

Left my muddy shoes on the front patio when I got home and looked at my watch. That was depressing! It took forever to complete my 6.2 mile loop. I'm sure my body is thanking me for the easy pace with walk breaks, but my mind is still coming to grips with how slow I was moving.

Have a good rest of your weekend, folks!

  1. Nice job! I like your idea about taking walk breaks every mile. It sound like a good way not to over do it.

  5. It is what it is - time on the road will always pay off, and exercising your will power is another achievement :)

  6. Who gives a hoot how fast you went. You WENT!

Thanks for sharing the photos. It's actually not that bad there, even though it's flat. LOL At least it's dirt, that's good! ;)

  7. A slow six is still six, a good distance. And just think of all the extra mental training you get with a little more time out there. My alarm cat doesn't usually make noise until I move a muscle around 4:30am, then it's like he was watching me and he goes nuts. They're cuter than a clock, though.

Thanks again for always stopping by my blog, I'll be keeping up with yours for sure. Hope the hamstring heals quickly.

  8. a slow 6 is better than no 6, way to get it done...I might try taking my camera on one of my runs and take pics every mile like that, good idea...

  9. six miles is six miles, and six miles without injury is even better. Being able to push through at a slow pace now will help you with the tenacity to finish hard / depressing runs in the future, just you wait. :) Great work!

  10. I totally understand that depressing feeling of being slower than you want. Fact is though it's way better than sitting around all the time or having no focus when it comes to exercise or not working out, which is what so many others choose to do.

    Nice job!!!!!

  11. LOL! Alarm cat. Persistent little buggers aren't they?

Woo hoo!! Great early morning long run. 6.2 miles with no pain is ALWAYS a great thing! You got to see some beautiful countryside, pretty horses, and not aggravate your injury. All good things in my book!

    Be nice to you! :o)

  13. The most important part of the run was that you got out the door and did it. Way to go!

  14. Good for you for getting 6 miles in. Don't stress about the time. Sounds like your body needed to take it easy. 6 miles is 6 miles! :)

  15. Good for you for getting up and getting it done. I was supposed to do 6 today and did NOTHING. Not even a slow walk, sigh.

    Go you!

  17. Yes, I agree how nice that route looks. And if it makes you feel any better, I was running like 11 minute miles often when my hammy was bothering me. That's 2 min slower than my usual easy run pace. Be patient with yourself.

  18. Beautiful scenery!

I have an alarm dog who wakes me with kisses on Saturday's.

For the marathon, I'm going to be doing a run .95 walk .05 strategy, it seemed to work for me on the last few long runs.
