Day Dreaming

With Duke City behind me, restricted activities for 3-4 weeks, I've been daydreaming about what I might do next.

This was actually prompted by Husband declaring a run goal of his own this week. He has announced that he doesn't want to run long, he wants to focus on a faster 5K. Cool, I think this is the first time he's had a goal other than "run to be healthy."

Of course this begs the question...what about me? What are my goals? For the most part, I haven't nailed down my own goals, but I've started thinking.

One big unknown is whether or not knee rehab will be successful.

If not, I think I can still do 5K runs, maybe 10Ks. My knee seems to be good up to about 5-6 miles. I could certainly join his quest for a faster 5K. There are lots of local 5Ks over the course of the year that we could sign up for. That would be fun.

However, if knee rehab works well, I think I'd like another attempt at the half-marathon distance. Maybe Unser this spring. I'm also intrigued by the Squash blossom half marathon in Gallup in September, a trail run.

On the triathlon front, I'm fairly certain that I'll stick to sprints again next year.

What about you? What are your goals/plans for next year? Have you figured them out yet or are you still daydreaming as well?

  1. Your knee WILL get better!! I know I want to go short and local next year, but I haven't started thinking about it yet :-)

  2. Good luck with the knee rehab. My plans include continuing to build up my mileage and running the L.I. Half Marathon in May.

  3. Ahhhhh Lisa, you'll be back to the longer distance before you know it ;-) I like that you have a plan though . . .you've been doing the speedwork. I bet you could easily PR at one of those 5ks!

  4. I can't see past Silverman right now so 2009 goals will have to wait another couple of weeks.

Since it is my first HIM I think racing it will be telling in where I want to put my focus for next year.

Training wise, it's not too bad or overwhelming, but still very challenging, at least for me. And actually sometimes it has felt overwhelming but much more manageable as the season has gone on.

Congrats to hubby on his 5k goals. Yours will be fun to figure out. I like the half marathon distance too!

  5. Cool that your hubby is interested in running some races! Keeping my fingers crossed for you on the knee. Does cycling bother your knee much? If not, maybe some longer bike rides might also be fun to include.

As for 2009 goals, I'm like Stef. Still waiting to see how things turn out this year with my last tri in a couple weeks.

  7. I hope knee rehab goes well, and both improving your 5K time and aiming for another HM are good goals.

  10. Just take it slowly and your knee will be fine. Like the idea of a trail race...

I think in 2009, I will be doing more shorter distances as well.

  12. A new 5K goal sounds like a great way to keep moving with your running without overstressing your knee. Fun!

  13. I think you have the right idea - stick with short races while you strengthen up the knee and then reassess. That's what I'm doing, too. 5k for the rest of the year, 5 & 10ks through the spring. Then I will see where I'm at.

  14. I think your knee will get better with time and you'll be back to longer distances soon.

As far as your goals question....I'm still ironing it out. So much to think about.

  15. I'm still daydreaming. But once I get my running up to par I want to complete my first Olympic Distance. That mean dropping mad weight and running like the dickens.

  17. I am in definite daydream mode trying to sort out goals too. Glad someone else is in the same zone. Good luck with your knee!

  18. Sounds like good goals. I think focusing on shorter races makes it easier to extend a bit longer over time to bring speed to the race the next size up. Good luck.

  20. Great goals, Lisa!

I'm ready to get into the cooler weather running mode and then winter running. I'd like to make that dang ole' marathon feel just a bit easier to me!
