Stepped on the scale this morning. For a moment, it seemed to want to tell me that I was down another half pound, but it changed it's mind and decided to render a verdict of "no change from last week". I stepped off. I stepped back on. Still no change. Stepped off. Stepped back on. Stepped off. Stepped back on. Same result. Sigh.
This morning I attempted to run on the treadmill before work at the fitness center. What a miserable experience. In addition to my normal despise of the treadmill, I found that it was simply too freaking hot in there. After 1.5 miles, I stepped off and walked outsideo to try to cool off. I probably looked like a crazy women standing outside in a running skirt and sleeveless shirt in thirty-something degree weather. After a few minutes, I went back in, found a fan, aimed it at the treadmill, and managed another 1.25 miles before I felt like I was going to collapse from a combination of overheating and boredom.
It rained again today. Tomorrow we're expecting rain and snow. Oh joy.
I think I'm having the same problem with my scale as well. It does not move down.. Maye we both need new batteries in ours..
ReplyDeleteYeah, the treadmill can be boring, just try different paces and inclines on it.. It keeps my boredom away most of the time for me..
I think if you can hold your own during the holidays that's great!
ReplyDeleteThe treadmill is one of those neceesary evils of winter. Bit good job on hanging in there.
I think I'm channelng Eeyore today.

Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.
Three miles on the treadmill is a good physical AND mental workout :-) Send that snow and rain my way please!
ReplyDeleteGood job getting on that dreadmill! I'm wondering about my runs this week with the upcoming weather forcast. I don't want to treadmill it, either :(
ReplyDeleteWell, I finally got the nerve up to go to a spin class yesterday. When I got there, a girl at the front desk told me it was cancelled. I sweated like a piggy on the stationary bike, only to find out after about 30 minutes that the class had NOT been cancelled...grrr.
We are going to set a record high for December here is TN today...78! Can you believe it? Scott and I are struggling not to turn the AC back on.
ReplyDeleteI agree that staying at the weight you are during the Holidays is quite the victory...keep up the good work, you are inspiring me, I got up and did my yoga this morning!
Take Care
Yes, new batteries or new scales. That's what we need!
ReplyDeleteI have that same problem with the treadmill, once you get going it's too hot and so boring. You can't get your mind off it. The only way I have found success is in the cold basement and must have a movie in to distract me! Good luck...
Maybe you can use this experience as heat training for next year? I am glad for one thing about my gym and that is that its not too hot in there usually. When I belonged to the Y though, it was like running through a desert every time I ran on the track or the treadmill. If you can get outside most of the time, just use the treadmill days for shorter and faster runs. I think I am doomed to spend my winter on one.
ReplyDeleteI know that step on, step off routine. For some reason, we all believe it's like a wheel of fortune and each spin may give us different results.
ReplyDeleteI completely understand the boredom thing. I usually have to imagine that I am somewhere else. I really would like to live somewhere warm where I could train outside year round. Nice job finishing up though. :-)
ReplyDeleteNo change is better than a gain, right? ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh dear - winter and treadmill-hatred....what are you going to do? I know which treadmill at my gym gets most of the breeze from the fan so I always try and get on that one. Do you have an mp3?
ReplyDeleteScales are instruments of Satan designed to mess with our brains.
Hey, I am new here but know the feeling of the dreaded treadmill up in here in the North East.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa for the comment. If you don't mind, what kind of running injury did you have this year? I hope my MRI will be ok.
ReplyDeleteSeems like you may have hit on a small way to make a dent in the energy crisis: TURN DOWN THE HEAT in all the gyms and work-out facilities.
ReplyDeleteOh, have I ever played that scale game! And sometimes they DO change - thereby inviting the insane game. It was really bad one year when I was on a weight loss team. Let's just say that each time I stepped on, a piece of clothing had been stripped off.
