Benched...

The weekend got worse from a knee pain perspective before it got better. By Sunday afternoon, I was hobbling around. Not good.

I called the orthopedic guy's office early Monday morning. They cannot see me until the end of June. Why is the lead time to see a specialist soooooo long? Even if he does start me on Euflexxa injections again, we're looking at July before treatment starts. That's a good two months away. Then the downtime from the injections. This is going to mess me up throughout the entire summer. Sigh.

Between now and then I will simply use my best judgement. Coach thinks I need at least a full week off. Then we need to keep the volume, distance, and intensity down to a level that allows me to run without pain. I guess it's a good thing that I don't have any races on my calendar at the moment.

So I guess I will try to find ways to cycle more, assuming that won't bother my knee nearly as much. In fact, if the wind isn't too bad today, I think I will cycle over to my running group's meeting spot and back. I can't run with them, but I can still meet up!

  2. I hate when I can't get into the doctor's office sooner. I know that must be so frustrating. Have you thought of seeing someone else until then? I think it would be great to still meet up!!! Have a great night and I hope you have a speedy recovery!

  4. Too bad about the long wait. Here's hoping you can manage the situation in the meantime and still run a bit.

  5. You've got my sympathy with the knee ache. I hurt my knees (nothing like as seriously as you) three weeks ago. I've only just started cycling again and running is still completely out of the question. For the last 2 weeks i've been going mad having to sit in everynight and do nothing.

I've got a 24hr MTB race this weekend which is now looking higly unlikely.

  6. Damn! I feel your pain (literally). That sucks bad.
End of June? Seriously? That's BS! Just wrong.
On an up note though - I was actually praising God for my news I received last summer, as I was able to cycle 62 miles. If I had not been told I may never run again, I never would have purchased a bike. I hope you find the silver lining to this too.

  7. How frustrating about the long wait. I hope with a good week of rest, though, that it will get better. Hang in there!

  8. Bummer! Though I applaud your attitude for trying to see the positive side. Perhaps you could take up aqua jogging too? I've heard it's like running except ehm, wetter.

  11. Wait a minute, I thought I cornered the market on being injured. You need to get better fast so I'll be back to my exclusive.

    But seriously, feel better.

  19. Well, that's just a big bummer! Someone else already suggested what I was thinking, and that's seeing someone else. Is that even a possibility? How about physical therapy? I can't remember if you've gone that route. Take care, and I hope you find some kind of relief.
