Making Plans

So many of you already have plenty of plans for 2010. I still haven't decided what I want to focus on this year. Running? Triathlon? Cycling? Swimming?

Running seems to make me happiest, so I think for the part of the year, that is what I would like to keep my sights on. After that, I may change focus to triathlon. Or not. I'll decide later.

So with running as my short term focus, I figured I should sign up for local mid Jan race that I mentioned that I was interested in, right?

That is what I set out to do this morning when I found this message on their website:

"THE FULL CIRCLE ROUNDUP HAS BEEN POSTPONED AND WILL BE RESCHEDULED FOR A LATER DATE IN SPRING/SUMMER OF 2010."

*sigh*

I guess I'll just consider that one more race fee saved and move on to trying to find some events over the next few months.

In Feb, a few options are a Superbowl Run on the 7th (that raises money for the homeless) or the Sweetheart Run on the 14th. Either of those would be fun. The superbowl run starts at 11am, which means it should be warmer. That might be the deciding factor. No need to sign up for either for a few weeks, so I can decide later.

In March, there is a 10 mile run that really looks appealling. However, it is on a weekend that I'll probably be away on vacation. And quite frankly, I'd rather go on vacation. I'm silly like that.

Then in April, on the 17th, there is a local half-marathon. Realistically, this is probably not a good idea. The last half-marathon really took a toll on my body. Yet somehow the idea of getting myself in shape for a spring half-marathon is rather appealling to me. I can't get it out of my head that this is the event I want to target for the first part of the year.

What do you think? Good idea? or evidence that I have short term memory?

  1. I like the idea of the half marathon.. could you start training for it and back off if it realy starts to take its toll? and find a 10K/ 10 miler later in the year?

  3. The Superbowl Run sounds fun, especially since it raises money for a good cause.

I say go on vacation in March, but do a long run while you're there? lol.

And go for the half marathon in April! Sounds like a great way to enjoy some warmer temps!

  4. I agree with Trishie. Go for the half. If you are ready, great. Even if you aren't the training should benefit you. You always have the option to step it down.

  5. I agree with everyone else that you should go for the half. Just make sure you do some running on pavement in preparation.

  7. I agree. Train for the half then if you do it, you're ready and if you decide it's too much just do the 10 miler.

Good luck in making the choice!

  8. My major focus this year is definitely running but I'd love to get a sprint triathlon in there somewhere too. We'll see I guess :)

  10. I think a spring HM is doable. Just remember that you resolved for more training on cement for such a race, right?

  11. I agree with Shellrym, train for the half mary and if your body isn't in agreement, do the 10 miler.

  12. I think the Half is a good idea. You have plenty of time to train for it. If it's not working, there will be some other races at that time. Good luck!

  13. I think you should put the Half on your race calendar. You still have some time to see how training is going and re-evaluate things as you get closer to race day.

  14. One of the coolest things about being a triathlete, is that we have 3 sports to play with and can decided which leg is going to be our focus.

  15. if we didn't have short term memory none of us would keep signing up for races that are so dang hard :)

I say start training and see how you feel...if you are feeling good then commit to signing up in 4 weeks. If things aren't right, then you'll know that maybe you don't want to push your body through that.
