Like many of you, I have way too many cotton running shirts from various events that I've participated in. I never wear them, but it's a shame to get rid of them. I was going through my closet recently and realized that some of them are actually pretty cool looking. I'm particularly fond of warm colors, so I gathered up several shirts with interesting emblems that had warm colors in them (plus one that I wasn't crazy about but worked with the color scheme) and shipped them off to be made into a throw size, t-shirt quilt.
I couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out. :-)
What do you do with your event t-shirts?
I have been wanting to do this for years. I have a full box of t-shirts from high school, then college, and now running/cycling events.
ReplyDeleteYours is arranged well and looks neat. Where did you send it?
Send me the info. I will have to check it out.
My husband did the same thing a few years ago. So neat! Most races now have tech shirts--I wonder what we'll do with all of those?
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I have seriously always wanted to do this!!! It tells a story and keeps you warm... and maybe just maybe it might inspire the kids someday too.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I usually sleep in mine or they end up in the donation box!
ReplyDeleteI really want to do that with my shirts
ReplyDeleteI too have been wanting to do this! My mother in law has been suggesting she teach me to sew for years...maybe, just maybe I will take her up on it. (:
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks great!
That is really really cool! I actually rarely get cotton t-shirts at races though, all my t-shirts have been tech tees so far! But I'm sure you could still do it with tech tees (although most of mine are kind of stinky from wearing htem running. Hehe)
ReplyDeleteAnyways, very cool - it turned out great!!
I think I would like one of those. I agree. It looks great!!
ReplyDeleteYour throw looks great! Great selection of shirts for it.
ReplyDeletecool idea! I don't do anything special with mine. Some I wear but others are just sitting around collecting dust.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!! Also a great gift idea!
ReplyDeleteCool quilt! I given them to shelters and even pre-schools, where they use them as paint smocks!
ReplyDeleteMy mom makes wonderful t-shirt quilts, so I look forward to shipping some off to her to make a large throw quilt! The first one she made was with my dad's NCAA tournament shirts!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I love how it turned out!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteBeing the vixen that I am, my race tees are my nightwear. :0
Awesome idea! I did this with some sorority (yes, I was in a sorority, sh!) tees a while ago. The ones without the beer stains...lol
ReplyDeleteI have been meaning to do this for years... I've had a pile of old tees taking up residence on the guest bed. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteI've done the quilt thing with my shirts for the last two years. My kids "steal" the quilt. Often.
ReplyDeletelove it, really want to do this i actually set aside all tshirrts in a bag and just havent done it, need to ...what company did you use
ReplyDeleteI need to do that with a bunch of Beer Geek's old fraternity and brewery tees.
ReplyDeleteMost of the tees I get now are tech tees and I wear them until they are too gros to make a quilt out of. LOL
I seriously love this! Can you tell more like how much it cost and where you sent it? Were there suggestions/directions to follow? I assume they were all pretty new.
ReplyDeleteI have given away a lot of my t-shirts at races where they get shipped off. My newest plan is to save them until I have enough for every one of my students even though they will be giant sized.
I wear the ones I like.
Love TeaMarcia's comment!
ReplyDeleteI have gotten rid of many of mine, love the quilt!
ReplyDeleteMine have been piling up in my closet. Eventually I want mine made into a quilt.
ReplyDeleteThat looks great! I am slowly making mine into a crazy-patchwork quilt. Ver very slowly, but yours will inspire me!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool idea! I only ever participated in one running event and the T is my fav sleep shirt. I've got plenty of cycling jerseys but their "high-tech material" is just not so suitable for a comfy rug.
ReplyDeleteWhere? And how much?
ReplyDeleteYes, I have been wearing shorts and sleeveless shirts this past week when I'm out running. ;)
That is so cool!
ReplyDeleteI usually end up giving mine away. What a great idea!
