Mid-week swim

Set my alarm for 5:30 this moring so that I could get up and swim. I realize 5:30 isn't all that early when it comes to early morning workouts, but I haven't needed to get up before 6:15 for months.

I hit the snooze button when the alarm went off. This is never a good sign. Caving into the snooze button is generally a path that leads to disaster.

But not today. I actually popped out of bed when the alarm went off the second time. I put on my swim clothes and stumbled into the kitchen. Poured a cup of coffee, sat down and drank it, and was off.

I was pleasantly surprised to find not one, but two open lanes when I arrived at the pool. Nice. My plan was to swim 1000yds, and that's just what I did.

I hopped out and went over to the hot tub to stretch. Some retired gentleman said to me "Haven't seen YOU here for MONTHS. You used to swim farther than that."

Great. I have a swim stalker. Or perhaps my conscience takes the form of an elderly gentleman at the pool.

Either way, I'll try to be back tomorrow. After all, I used to swim farther than that...

  3. Swim-stalker... lol. Hey, anything that gets you working harder can't be a bad thing! Great job on the morning workout.

  4. I see him as a swim motivator. It gets stalkish when they say stuff like "haven't seen you come at (specific time/days/weeks/x number of months.)"

I didn't feel quite comfortable with a man asking questions about me running at the Y. Yeah, maybe he is friendly, but I don't like sharing information. So I quit going at the time he is there.

  6. Oh no, swim stalker! Hopefully he just keeps really accurate tabs on everyone's swimming practices.
Great work getting in the pool time!

  7. My gym is full of ol' folk like him. Honestly, I could give up my training log & just ask them what I did, & they'd be able to tell me.

    Get to it, girl!!

  9. I always find it strange when people comment like that. It's fine, but weird.

Also, good news for you here: http://happyrunnergiveaways.blogspot.com/

  11. Isn't it weird when people you don't know well notice what you do? I think "older" folks just sort of notice stuff, maybe because they have the time to. I dunno. We had a neighbor like that. It's a little creepy, but on the other hand it's kind of cool that someone notices. Yep, use it as motivation!

    Nice swim, Lisa!

  13. I take stuff like that and through it back at them .. and probably would be sputtering after them about all the other things I was doing.
Great job on the swim...I'd be dead if I tried that.

  14. Haha! I bet he was one of those tough old guys who put some of the young ones to shame when they lift!

  15. Ha! Did that guilt you into wanting to go back again? Those pesky concisenesses, disguised as senior citizens, how low can they go?
