Intervals with Dog

Maybe I should have waited a few more hours before my last post. I came home from work and it was LOVELY outside and I'm feeling so much better (just not 100%) so I took the dog for a walk/jog. I'm logging this one as "Intervals with Dog - 31 min, 2mi" Looking at my Garmin, the 'jogs' were at about an 8:50 min/mi pace. Normally, I try to do my intervals at an 8min/mil pace, but I'm happy with 8:50min/mi given I really didn't intend to do intervals, I just wanted to take him for a walk and jog a bit as I felt comfortable. We also stopped so he could pee on a few bushes, but I digress...

I'll need a different solution if I want to continue trying to run with Bandit. The leather leash isn't working well for that. I'll need something that attaches to my body and is mostly hands-free. I also need to get him to stop chasing bunnies...

  1. Hey Lisa,
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Glad you like the pics of my "adventure."
If your jogs are 8:50, I'm duly impressed! No reason to complain there.
    Keep at it!

  2. Sometimes just writing it down is enough to get things moving again.

You have to watch the Dog Whisperer, he just walks/jogs with dogs with the leash draped around his neck. That should work for you :)

  3. Glad you are feeling better. Getting out there again and getting some needed fresh air.

Maybe you can dangle a stuffed bunny in front of the doggie, so he will just go straight and he can keep up with you :)

Here is to a better health week.

  4. I agree with akbreezo, "if your jogs are 8:50..." If I ever make it up there to Alb., then I'm probably going to accidently forget my running shoes - but maybe remember to bring my bike...

  5. I need to clarify something. I intended only to jog which usually means a 11:30-13min/mi pace, but ended up doing intervals which is why the pace was faster. That is not my jogging pace, that is pretty much my flat out running pace!

  6. I see people running with dogs around the Albuquerque Academy all the time, and they have the solution you are looking for, some are running hands-free, and some have this extendable leash, that mitigates the push and pull, so they run together with the dog, but kind of independently.

  7. Too funny! I can't wait until I get settled somewhere...my first big purchase is going to be a running partner...a puppy!

  8. I wish we had a dog that could run sometimes - I think it would be great way to train.

Good to hear that you are doing better.
