On Doing a 365 Project

This year I'm participating in a 365 Project.  This means that I'm taking and posting one photo per day to a group site.  It's my second time doing this, and I wanted to share some learnings from last time.  I had originally joined thinking that it would be a good way to improve my photography skills.  I probably did, but I got so much more out of it than that.

I didn't realize
...how much I would enjoy viewing the other participants photos.
...how much I would learn about myself.
...how hard it would be to pick JUST ONE photo on most days.
...that it would effectively become a photo journal of my year.
...how much I would miss it when it ended.

This year I'm going into it knowing that it doesn't matter so much what others think of my shots, I care a whole lot more about how they will make me feel when I look back on them.  I already regret the choice that I made one of the days last week. I'm going to try hard to avoid that.

With that, I will share my first weeks' photos.  Follow me on Flickr if you want to see more.  Ping me if this is something you are interested in joining (it's not too late!).

  1. Great photos! I have toyed with the idea of doing this but I'm hesitant to just add another thing.

    1. It didn't even hit me when I started last time that a photo journal would be the result.

    1. We only get color when there are some clouds. I always enjoy the pretty skies when it happens.

  6. They're great! I've been using a phone app to collect a photo every day and I've found it a very interesting exercise. I've tried to focus on things that I'm grateful for and it's surprising how many times my dog is featured. Or maybe it's not surprising considering that I'm the doggy equivalent of a crazy cat lady.

  7. I'm really grateful to you for introducing me to the idea and then the Flickr group! There are so many great pictures being uploaded I'm missing lots, so I appreciate your recap here. I'm trying to focus mostly on what will matter to me rather than what other people might think is "good", but it's great getting hints from seeing other people's shots that make good use of lighting / technique.

    1. I'm glad you are enjoying it! There are a lot more people this time, I can't keep up with all the photos.

  8. Great photos!! I Love the idea of taking a picture every day, but isn't it difficult to find a picture?

    1. Once I get in the habit of the 365, I end up bringing my camera almost everywhere. It actually is harder most days to choose one and only one photo to select for that day.
