Three Things Thursday

1) I'm posting this at 3:15am. When I have a lot on my mind, I wake up in the middle of the night unable to sleep. On my mind right now is my Son's imminent departure for college. He leaves in a little over 3 weeks. We need to decide who he wants to go with him and book our flights. I'm going to talk with him about that tomorrow. On the one hand, I hope he wants me to go with him so that I can see where he'll be living. On the other hand, I kinda hope he wants his dad to take him so that I can shed my farewell tears in the privacy of my own home. Sigh.

2) I've walked 72.5 miles so far this month including 18 trips up and down the hill. Do you have any idea how freaking long it takes to walk that many miles? Three days to go before I close the books on July. Even though I can start running again (knock on wood) in August, I think I will continue walking on my cross-train days. It's growing on me.

3) I'm officially out of the Chile Harvest Triathlon. Mixed emotions about this, but I believe it was the right decision. Maybe next year. Oddly, shortly after getting that taken care of, I received an email about the Patriot Tri in mid-September. That's the one I didn't do last year because it was a few days after my dad died and I was an emotional and physical mess on race day. Now I need to decide whether to add this one into the mix or just concentrate on the HM in October. Hmmmmmmmm. Stay tuned.

  1. I thought your comment came waaaay early this morning ;)

I'll admit - I was a teary mess watching Toy Story 3 & seeing Andy go off to college. I might need to be medicated when it's my kids' turns, but it won't be for a while yet.

  2. Hi Lisa,
You have banked some serious walking miles this month! What is so impressive is that it takes longer to walk than to run! You are putting so much time into your training...good for you!

I remember feeling the same way about my son leaving for college just last year. My college guy did not move out of state....he was three hours away. We both drove him up and got him settled in. I was so surprised that I did not cry when I left. I was totally fine and was actually proud of myself for not getting super emotional. I then later, after getting home, walked downstairs to his empty room and cried my eyes out! It was so wierd...just that one time and I was fine. I did miss him at first but it is something that you just get used to. My son came home at least once a month...usually at the end of the weekend I was ready for him to leave again:) He and my daughter get on each other's nerves:) I know it is tough to have your oldest leave for college...hang in there Lisa, everything will be fine:)

  5. Big decisions to be made for sure. I am going to vote go with the tri since you cancelled one and missed one. And also because I obviously have tri on the brain. ;)

Hope you get some sleep tonight.

Sending your son off to college has got to be tough. Good luck!

  7. I am the same way with the waking with stuff on my mind. Can only imagine how it feels when kids head off to school... I'm sure I'll be a mess when that day comes.
    Stellar job on the walking!
Good luck with your race deliberations!

  8. Now you have me wondering how my dad felt when he drove me to college. I couldn't get out of the car fast enough to start my new life.

  9. That's some major walking!

I can't even wrap my head around sending a kid off to college. I'm nervous enough about sending mine to 3rd grade...

  11. Yeah, I would vote for private farewell tears. But, I'm a crier of the biggest sort and just thinking about sending my (only 3yo) son to college makes me teary!

  12. That's a lot of walking and I know it takes a long time because I do a lot of it myself. It's not bad though, is it? Considering it's not running, I mean.
I hope he picks you so WE CAN MEET!! :)
