Monday Ditch Bank Run

I normally do my mid-week runs on Tuesday and Thursday. However, tomorrow happens to be Passover. I'm planning to attend a Passover Seder and won't have time to run.

So I needed to do my 5 mile run today. I decided to run on the ditch bank for a change. I wish I had my camera with me. I saw a several ducks swimming in the ditch and some flowers along the ditch bank that were beginning to bloom. Very cool.

I've been having trouble with my Garmin not seating well on the cradle.. Today was one of those days when I found it mis-seated and uncharged. I have a pretty good idea where my turn around point is and it was scheduled as an easy run so I didn't need to know my pace. But I must admit to being addicted to data. It bothers me somewhat not knowning precisely how far I ran (4.9? 5.0? 5.2?) or what my splits are. But I'll get over it.

  1. This happened to D on Sat with the Garmin. He was not happy.

  2. That happens to me with my Garmin sometimes too. The other day I went for a run and had not changed it over to "run" from "bike". When I went to see my average pace, needless to say, I ran VERY slow! LOL ;)
Thanks for your nice comments on my blog all the time, you are so supportive and I appreciate it!

  3. Running somewhere scenic is always good. I run during my lunchtime around a small lake trail with geese and ducks. It makes the run much nicer than on a track.

  4. Flowers blooming?
    where?
Lucky you. I'm hoping to see something blooming in my neck of the tundra soon.
    What's a Garmin?...
Kidding. Running old school with no gizmos can be good for you. Enjoy the scenery.

  7. I have the same issues with mine as well, the slightest tap knocks it out. Frustrating to say the least, Now that i am thinking about it, maybe a rubberbacd would help keep it in the cradle.

  8. I love running and seeing the season change up close! Makes the same old routes new again.

I don't like not knowing the distance I am running. (gee maybe because I am obessed with numbers!) Since my Garmin died long ago, I still have not ponyed up the money to get a new one so I run the same dozen routes which I know the distance. When I run something new I usually at least use mapmyrun to get a close distance. I have found it is pretty acurate most places. Like you said, addicted to that data!! Me too!

  10. Try gently rubbing a pencil eraser over the prongs on the Garmin before charging. Seems to help...

    Nice job on the run!

I love the excitment of seeing the succession of different flowers starting to bloom: crocus, daffodils, tulips, magnolia trees.....

  13. Haha, I feel the same way about "data"- once you have a Garmin its hard to go back to "just knowing." I am such a Garmin idiot though, how do you find out your splits?

  14. I remember having those issues. Do I remember correctly that you have a droid phone? if you do, check out my tracks on the android market. It is free and can use the GPS to track your miles/pace. It isnt the most user friendly interface, but it works well. I had to use it one time I forgot my garmin. I was also able to export it and reimport it to sport tracks which I use to log my garmin data instead of Garmin Training Center
