Oh, and about training...

We went to the gym the day we left on our trip. It was a good workout session. I also completed Week 3 Day 1 pushups.

I made sure to pack my running shoes, shorts, and two sleeveless shirts, sports bra, socks, running cap, swim cap, goggles, and week 3 pushup schedule.

Swim cap and goggles got plenty of use. No drills, but I did laps at the pool several mornings. I also did a little open water swimming. All in all, I'm logging 3800 yds of swimming for that week.

As for the running clothes and pushup schedule... All they did was waste space in my luggage. Admittedly, I'm a weather wimp. It was simply too hot/humid even in the morning for me to think seriously about running. I really don't know how some of you manage in the summer time where you live!

Planned on running with the group yesterday. Somehow it didn't happen though. I was out doing errands with my daughter and time got away from me. Oops.

I think I'm finally back on track, though. I was at the gym bright and early today for lower body, core, and Week 3 Day 2 pushups.

I'm running tomorrow. This time I mean it.

  2. "This time I mean it." ... too funny!

I can't do the extreme heat either. And, we do get some of that up here in Fargo, ND! LOL. I would much rather prefer a cool, crisp 50/60 degree morning!

  3. Judging from the beautiful pics in your last post, I can't blame you for not running and swimming instead.

  4. Congrats on getting the swim in! But you are right. Running in the heat is tough. I'm not looking forward to the Florida summers where at 5am it's 85 out. :(

Thanks for posting the pictures! They are amazing!

  8. I was training for my first ultramarathon when I went to Jamaica last year and had to do a lot of running. I would do it at 5 in the morning and it was still too humid. Crazy, us runners are! ;)

  9. You get credit for all that swimming, for sure! I would not have been able to run in that kind of heat/humidity either. When my hubby was away, he said it took him two weeks to adjust to it!

  10. You were on vacation. It was your choice to run or not. Just getting in the water was probably such a treat!

  11. I always prepare but seldom manage to run on brief vacations. And usually a short rest actually does me good mentally and physically, esp. if I manage to be active in other ways-- like with all your swimming!

  13. It's okay if you don't stick with your workouts perfectly on vacation! Vacations are a time for rest and relaxation! You got some swimming in and that's awesome!

  14. That sounds pretty good to me, given you were laying in paradise. :) I usually get a good arm workout as I'm double fisting, enjoying the beach. :)

  15. Great work on the swim. That's baout the only place I'd ever do an open swim workout. Lakes gross me out.

  17. No running on that beautiful island? Wow, I would have been out there running every day. Of course, the heat doesn't bother me much given where I live.

At least you got plenty of swimming in.

  19. Last time we went to Vanuatu I did exactly the same thing! This time I didn't bother packing running stuff, you get enough exercise in the water and touristing, and anyway it's a holiday!

    So, yeah I get you!!!

  22. heat, cold, humid, it's all here in Illinois. Still it would have been hard to push out in it.

  23. I don't do well with running on vacations in really warm places, either. It's hard to adjust to the heat! You'll be back at it soon, though!
