Thursday Thoughts

I started the Euflexxa injection series for me left knee yesterday. So there will be no running for me probably until end of April. Maybe next week I'll blog more about my knee and what these injections do to help. Today I want to blog about something else - my experience with running skirts!

The first few skirts that I bought were inexpensive champion brand from Target. I still like these for walking the dogs, but they aren't ideal for running because I find that the undershorts ride up. Chafing anyone?

The next few skirts that I bought were the Running Skirts brand. I haven't tried the athletic skirts (with undershorts), just the running skirts (with briefs). Now I happen to think they have the cutest skirts on the market with so many wonderful designs to choose from. However, the design with the pockets on the side doesn't work for me. I can't put too much in the pockets for fear of the skirts falling down. Also, the last skirt that I bought from them, I found that the briefs ride up. Blah. If I get something else from them in the future, I think I would try the capris or atheletic skirt.

Last fall I bought the lotta breeze capris from Skirt Sports. I love the design and this cut is quite flattering. I have a black one and am interested in possibly getting it in some other color,. I also tried a black gym girl skirt and while it fits well, I don't particularly like the cut on me. Blah. That was disappointing because I've seen it on other people and thought it looked cute. I guess it just doesn't suit my body type.

My marathon friends (fellow winter warriors) bought me a pink Brooks PR II skort. They chose it because it matches the sporthill top that I wore most weekends running with them. I actually LOVE this skirt and am seriously thinking of buying one in another color. I even wore it on spring break to the pool as a bathing suit cover and got compliments, reassuring me that the cut on this one is flattering.

So that's a summary of my skirt experience. Ladies, which skirt brands are your favorites or least favorites?

  1. My first skirt was a Champion as well. It was a gift and I enjoyed it for a short time running then it got relegated to pool deck skirt.

I love RunningSkirts but haven't worn them beyond half marathon distance.

I also love Lululemon skirts and ran Boston in one last year and got compliments on the back pleats all the way to the finish line. : )

  4. I've worn the Champion skirts from Target too and I like them for short runs and track but not for long runs due to the chafing. I've shied away from buying more b/c of that. Thanks for the tips on the ones that work for you!

  5. I've had a hard time finding any I like. Most don't even make it out of the dressing room, sigh. I have one of the runningskirts ones with the compression and I found that the compression shorts rode up (and I have huge thighs) and the skirt itself fell down. And that was on a 5k...

  6. i have a skirt sports skirt with briefs, i like it for shorter runs but the breifs are a bit snug for my junk in the trunk ;)

my favorite skirt (i ran a marathon in it even) is just a good old fashioned nike running skirt. it has compression type shorts under, and i never had a problem with them.

  9. I've never even tried one. No particular reason, but I like shorts, and I suppose I'm someone who's tough to change.

  13. I have a several runningskirts.com skirts and I personally like the ones with the athletic shorts underneath - I have both with briefs and with athletic shorts. The company is from here and I love that I get to support a local company instead of a huge corporation, plus I've met the twins and sometimes see one of them running the same routes I run. I never use the pockets on their skirts, though.

I also have a Nike running skirt that I LOVE, (it was a gift) but they no longer sell it.

  14. Sadly, I cannot run in shorts or skirts without about an 80% chance of chafing. It's a bummer.

I'm really sorry to hear about the no running. (And the self-pity from your comment.) I hope that you heal quickly and can get back to running in May. Hugs!

  15. Would like to hear more about those shots.

As for running skirts, I've never tried them. I've been tempted a few tomes, but chaffing is a huge issue for me. I can't ever wear regular running shorts; bike shorts for me.

  16. In Scotland I saw men running in kilt...but this is another story.
I hope that the injections can help you to recover as soon as possible.
