Tuesday Tidbits

Random thoughts on a Tuesday morning
  • Got to try out my new SportHill pullover rated for 0-40 deg and up to 35mph wind as it was a brisk 22-24 deg while I was out running this morning. Love it! I was very comfortable. Here's a photo from afterwards.
  • I just want to better explain that my frustration with the race going long wasn't so much about the extra distance. 5K, 6.2K whatever. I just couldn't believe that they didn't mark the turn point - a bridge off a dirt path - at all (no sign, no chalk) because they were expecting a volunteer to be there; then didn't make sure the volunteer was actually in place. Unbelievable!
  • My daughter was in Berkeley last weekend visiting her brother. Husband & I rather enjoyed the weekend alone. This whole upcoming empty-nest thing might not be so bad after all.
  • I'd like to share one tip from my changed eating habits. Restaurants notoriously serve way too much food. I've learned to ask for a to-go container at the beginning of the meal and put away the part that I don't plan/need to eat right up front. I'd eat the whole thing otherwise.
  • Local, hilly 5K Thanksgiving run - to do or not to do, that is the next race question.
  • Call me crazy, but I prefer cold weather running over hot summer running. I might feel differently about this in another month or so, but that's my opinion at the moment.

  1. I agree with you about the cold weather running. Also, yes, do the 5k on Thanksgiving, they are lots of fun! That jacket looks fantastic on you.

  2. That's a great idea about the to go box! and I, too, am contemplating running through the winter. I don't like being cold, but I think it just has to be a daily thing with me.

  3. Okay, you're crazy!

If you feel comfortable about the 5K, why not, ps, love your jacket...

  4. - the to-go box at the beginning is a broillant idea

    - prefer cold training over hot, its easier to layer up then its to layer down when its too hot, it reaches a point that no matter what you do, you wont get any cooler.

  5. Nothing wrong with critiquing a race. They take money to provide basic structure and having a volunteer in place isn't that much to ask. Otherwise, we could just run on our own for free, right?

  6. Great jacket!

I love the idea of asking for a takeout container from the get-go... definitely going to use that tactic next time!

  7. You are inspiring me to get out and run outside here! It's 32 degrees and calm here today. Won't probably happen today, since I have a training until 7pm and running in the dark is not my cup of tea! Love that jacket tho!

  12. I love the idea of getting rid of half the meal up front. Once I start eating it, I just finish because it tastes good OR others in my group are eating more slowly. Great idea!

    Do the race!!!!

  18. What a great idea to put food aside before and not after you eat. I just read an article about portion control yesterday and the portion sizes they gave as an estimate of how big a regular portion should be ... wow, there were an aweful lot of cupped hands and that's not much that fits in one cupped hand!!!

  19. oh i like the shirt. you have every right to be annoyed with a race that isn't well plotted...i'm still peeved by the halloween race that was an extra 1/2 mile for some of us because we received incorrect directions

  20. I like the idea of the to-go container in the beginning of a meal.......

  21. I don't mind the cold weather so much as the paths that are packed with ice and snow.... I completely empathize with your frustration about the lack of marking at the turning point. That is just bad form on the part of the organizers.

  22. I definitely like running in the cold more than the heat. But for walking, I would prefer it to be a tad warmer.
When are *you* coming back out to Berkeley? Hmmm?
