I've been using Nuun on and off for a year or so, but started using it more regularly since the tight quad incident a few weeks ago. I'm using it at times that I previously would have just had water, not when I would have used Accelerade. For example, still taking Accelerade with me on longish bike rides, but adding a Nuun tablet to my water bottle when I go to the track.
Each Nuun tablet contains four essential electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium). Drop one into your water bottle and they fizz up a bit. Two minutes later, you have a slightly flavored, sugar free, electrolyte drink.
My observations. I've had zero muscle cramping issues since using it more regularly. And I'm feeling less "thirsty" which I assume is because it's working well to hydrate me.

Nutrition/hydration seems to be very personal. What works well for me might not work well for you. Having said that, this is one product that I'm keeping in my bag of tricks.
Thanks for sharing your experience, I haven't seen it around here, but will look a little more closely for it!
ReplyDeletei love nuun...i've just been drinking it this summer but i'm going to keep using it year round..
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, I have never heard of it before. I may have to look for it and give it a try.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review! I've been wanting to try the stuff, but it is not readily available around here. Glad it seems to be working for you.
ReplyDeleteNuun has been on my radar for a while, but I still haven't tried it. Without all the sugar, I think it could be a winner. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHmm. 2nd good review on Nuun that I've read. Will certainly have to check it out. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, think I need to add these to my bag of tricks, especially for the sodium....I had MAJOR muscle cramping after my Marathon..
ReplyDeleteAnd Nuun tastes great too! I really like the Bigger Nuun flavors.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I don't use Nuun is that it didn't hit my radar right away. Hammer gel (raspberry) and perpeteum did and I've always used those.
ReplyDeleteFor salt I use Gatorade Endurance and Thermolytes. I know that Nuun has to be good because I've read several excellent reviews!
Most importantly glad it seems to be working for you! I'm very attached to what works for me. :-)
I love this stuff. Oddly enough I was drinking it last night after my swim and my hubby asked how much electrolytes do I drink each day? Answer: everyday I train, I drink it.
ReplyDeleteThey also make something they call "natural hydration", comes in the same kind of tube, has some more vitamins in it along with the other stuff. Also tastes good, no sugar.
btw, they didn't have all the lanes up last night in the pool, it was kind of an open pool swim, but still great! (my indoor pool also only has 4 lanes).
Nuun is ace and an absolute must for the summer! I've been a convert of the stuff for a year or so now - it's great for before, during and after race... or a bout of upset stomach for that matter!
ReplyDeleteGood write up!
Thanks for the review! I have seen it in the stores, but I think I may grab some for a bike ride this weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I've never tried it before but wondered. :)
ReplyDeleteI've heard good things about Nuun.
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me that I need to pick up some more of that. I used it last year when training for the marathon and liked it.
ReplyDeleteMCM Mama
I've heard a lot of good things about Nuun. I may have to check it out when I get back to running after the baby is born.
ReplyDeleteHmm I've been hearing a lot of people say they really like Nuun. Maybe I'll give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI really got to check this stuff out!
ReplyDeleteLots of peeps like this stuff. Might have to give it a go.
ReplyDeleteJust catching up on all your posts. Great job at splash and dash! It's hard competing with a young crowd. You have such a fantastic attitude I love it!
Your swim was very SOLID and with all the speedwork I saw that you've been doing, you're going to gain lots of strength in that area.
I love nuun. I've been using it to replace water on most of my runs.
ReplyDeleteI am not too wild about the fizz and use 1/2 tablet for 16 oz of water most of the time.
I am a huge fan of nuun as well! I tried it after reading about it in the blogoshpere and I really like it. The Kona Cola and Lemon-Lime are my favourites.
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm new to nuun , having only used it a handful of times. It took me a few times to get over the taste (lemon lime, blah) but I seem to be noticing a difference in my hydration levels. I'm normally really dehydrated after races, despite my water intake, and the nuun seems to be helping!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it's been working well with you. I too am a fan of Nuun. Orange-Ginger is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteNuun is great, though it really makes me burp alot. I use it often when I swim because I had found myself getting cramps towards the end of my longer sets
ReplyDeletei loooove nuun!! its a great product.
ReplyDeleteJust DON'T pop one in your mouth, thinking it is something else. BLAH! ;)
ReplyDelete*I did this in the middle of the Mt. Diablo Marathon in April.
That might be something I can use this weekend! I can't handle the sugary stuff but know I will need some sort of electrolyte replacement since it will be a hot race. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE NUUN I LOVE NUUN I LOVE NUNN!
ReplyDeleteThanks for singing it's praises.
Yeah, Pharmie LOVES the stuff! Glad it's working for you!!
ReplyDeletefeeling "less thirsty" and no cramps. nuun does in fact rock! thanks for the post.. spread the love!
ReplyDeleteI should give this a try as I've had race cramping issues but, in marathons, not sure how one would dissolve the tablet when not carrying a water bottle.
ReplyDeleteGotta try me some NUUN!!!
