Long Run Thursday Morning

Plan:
Get up at 5am. Be out the door by 6am. Stick with Run/Walk. Stay hydrated. Try to have fun. Test out new shoes. Run 7 miles. Don’t Bonk. Don’t be (too) late for work

Actual:
Alarm went off at 5am. Holy smokes, how do people get up this early?! Made friends with snooze button. Twice. Up at 5:18. Yawn. Thought about going back to bed. Looked for new shoes. Ate a small breakfast. Found the shoes. Got ready. Slowly. Finally out the door twenty minutes behind schedule. Ran until my first scheduled walk break. Okay, it’s not so bad. Took a swig from handheld at each walk break. Smiled and said good morning to everyone encountered. Wondered why some didn’t reciprocate. Decide they must not be morning people. Smiled. Tried to be cognoscente of my new shoes. Enjoyed the cool morning temps. Felt good. Finished the distance as planned. Wow that took a long time. Crud, time to leave for work NOW. Shouldn’t have dawdled so much. Stupid snooze button. Quick shower. Off to work. In time for first meeting. Whew.

  1. Ending your friendship with the snooze button is the hardest part of getting into the morning work out routine! :) Good job for sticking with it and making it to work on time!

My morning swim was waylaid (sp?) to drop off work for a client's early morning meeting....must get to the pool even if it is taper week.

    How were the new kicks?

  3. Oh me and my snooze are BFFs. For reals.

Great job on at least getting up and getting your run in. It's not easy working out in the morning!

  6. The same thought goes through my head on the rare occasion that I set my alarm for this hour. I very rarely get up. Good for you getting out there and nice distance!

  8. I am an obnoxiously chipper morning person so I would have said "Hi!!" and probably made your pace faster as you tried to get away from me.

Got your long run done AND made it to work on time. That has to feel good!

  15. Way to go! Yeah, getting up early is HARD at first. I never ever thought it would be the norm to wake up at 4:45 AM on a Saturday morning, just so I could make it out to run by 6:30 AM.

Is the early morning hour going to be a regular habit?

I have totally forgotten what it's like to get up so early since no longer being allowed to run early ...

  20. that's a great post ! I hate when people don't smile/ nod/ wave/ "hi" back at me on a run !

  21. I'm a dark o'clock person as well. If you give it some time, you can adjust and I love the feeling of being finished with a run before most people even get to work.

  22. Great job getting that done!

I've discovered that I need to move my alarm clock across the room - I have to get up to hit snooze, & since I'm up...

I can't think about it either - just gotta get up & start going through the motions until my brain starts to cooperate.

  24. I can get up early on the weekend to do a long run or ride w/friends, but get up early to run before work? Just impossible for me... I have no idea why. I mean, what's the big different (oh yeah, running w/friends means breakfast and mimosas and laughter...running before work, just means work...GAH!)

So, good job getting up...even w/the snooze button.

Oh, and I always say "hi" and wonder about those who don't!
