Saturday = Endurance Day

No speedwork today, today was all about Endurance.

In the early morning, I met up with my new running group for a 50min easy run. I'm pleased with the splits for two reason: 1) I actually did a decent job of pacing myself today and 2) I think this is my first time ever to accomplish negative splits. Hoooray!

Rested for a bit, then was back out the door with Husband for a long bike ride. The route was mostly flat and we targetted an easier pace than yesterday. I've graphed our speed for 5 mile increments. The first two hours weren't bad. I actually thought I was going to negative split my bike ride too. But as you can see, it was all over for me shortly after mile 30. I was Done! Kaput! Finito! Those last 8 miles were miserable, but I did make it home under my own power so Yay for that.

Whatever you have planned, I hope you enjoy your weekend, folks!!

  2. Well done!!! I know the feeling of those last few miles of misery on a bike ride. You hope it won't happen . . . but sometimes it does.

    Good job pushing through!

  5. Good work!

    Did you eat and drink enough during your ride? This looks to me like you bonked?

    To Michelle: I don't know what negative splits are either? Is it when you have better times on your return trip than in the first half of your ride/training session? Lisa - help!?

  6. I've replied to michelle and groover - negative splits are when you are faster on the second half. if someone else can explain why that term is used, that would rock.

    and yes...el bonko big time.

  9. That's very nice negative splits too. I think they are called negative splits just because when you subtract your 1st half timing from your 2nd half timing, you get a negative number. It's encouraged to do negative splits becoz they train us to push when some level of fatigue has set in, which is essentially race conditions (e.g. last mile of run, or run phase of Tri).

    I think being able to grind it out despite running out of steam is an important part of (mental) endurance training too. Well done!

  10. Great job. You may want to make note of your nutrition pre/during ride and see if you were lacking enough calories/electrolytes

  14. Good job Lisa, some days just end up that way....I'd check your intake for gels and liquids, maybe you just weren't getting enough fuel into you.

    Good job either way!

  16. You did great! Not always the easiest on the bike after a long run, and one which was quite successful! I predict great things to come!

  28. Great job!! I like how you said you made it home on your won power...sometimes that is a miracle in itself. I can't tell you how many times I want to call home for a ride but usually just barely make it home.
