I was off on Friday and decided to go on a solo bike ride at lunch time. I chose a short, but hilly route close to home. The temp was pleasant, right about 45 deg, but the wind was not (15-20mph). One thing is for certain - I don't love cycling the way that I love running. But it was a good workout and I got it done.
This morning I met up with the running group. As I mentioned before, I had 6 easy on the schedule today. I can't explain what happened exactly, but I felt fantastic and my run freaking rocked!
Behold the graph and three observations:
1) The overall pace stayed close to 10:30. That's a good 45 sec per mile faster than I have been running on my long/easy runs. I wasn't trying to go faster, I was simply trying to hold a comfortable pace. Crazy.
2) Negative splits, baby! That final mile was a good 30 seconds faster than the previous five. I'm quite pleased. If you've paid any attention to the graphs that I've posted for the past few years, you will know that this is a RARE event for me, my normal mode is to get slower and slower and the miles pass by.
3) Sprint finish. I was feeling awesome, so I located an imaginary finish line and sprinted across it. Oh.my.gosh. I was flying. Where did the energy come from? No clue.
If I could figure out what made today such a good day for me, I'd definately repeat it. However, I really have no idea what happened. Some mornings are better than others, I guess. For now, I'm just going to revel in the moment.
And when I got home, Husband presented me with a delayed surpise birthday gift - a Wii Fit. Wow. How very cool! I can't wait to open up the box and play with it. :-D
Next week, eight miles. BRING IT!
I want a wii... keep us posted on how much you like Fit.
ReplyDeletedontcha just LOVE days like this? It's an amazing feeling with you have boundless energy like that. What an emotional high!
ReplyDeletegreat work..and enjoy that Wii...
I agree with Jon, love these type of weekends.
ReplyDeleteI read in Running Times that your running today is a result of the training/eating/etc you did 3 weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteDon't ya wish you could bottle it? Congrats!
What a great day! Yay!
ReplyDeleteExcellent!!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the Fit, I just got Active and am hoping to try it out this weekend.

ReplyDeleteGreat gift. I love Wii fit.
ReplyDeleteYup, some days are just GREAT and some days not so much. Gotta remember the good ones when you're having a bad one.
ReplyDeleteI love my Wii Fit. It's SO fun. ;)
oh man if we could always have those days wouldn't it be wonderful! Guess that's why we appreicate them so much though
ReplyDeleteI noticed when I was training for my Tri, that a quick bike ride on Friday made my run on Saturday fantastic.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the exercise, and yay on the Wii.
Nice stats, Lisa! Love the finish kick!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Don't you just love runs like that? Maybe your running has hit a new level.
ReplyDeleteA Wii Fit would be so fun. That is the only game system I would buy. So far we have been able to hold off.
Oooh! Have fun with the Wii fit! Everyone I know that has one loves it!
ReplyDeleteNew electronic toyz! How exciting :-) Love the good day! Sometimes, when you surprise yourself, it opens new doors. Well done!!!
ReplyDeleteA 45 sec pace improvement is MAJOR improvement. I have noticed that on my runs lately but know it's simply due to running in 30-40 degs cooler weather. For you, my guess/hope is that it's because you've been running consistently and have been building a solid aerobic base. Whatever, good job. And happy wii-ing!
ReplyDeleteThat is great! I love it when a run really comes together. Nothing beats that (ok, maybe really good dark chocolate).
ReplyDeleteCongrats on an awesome run! I wish all runs could be awesome ones like that!
ReplyDeleteLove those runs that leave you smiling and feeling awesome at the end! Well done!! :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I hope your 8-miler is just as good!
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy cycling about as much as running, but I find it to be more of a pain to actually do- filling up tires, finding helmet etc. Plus, it takes longer to burn the same amount of calories haha. So running is better. If only I could run haha.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great analysis.
ReplyDeleteGood for You!
I agree with Jon, love these type of weekends.
ReplyDeleteWork From Home
What a sweet way to start the weekend! Great running - maybe a breakthrough!??!
