Skirt Obsession & Doggie Dash Training

I returned the odd-colored gym girl skirt and decided to shop around some more. They had an all black one that was clearly too big and kinda boring from a color perspective, but WAY on sale. I decided to take that (and still got $$ back with the exchange) and altered it when I got home. I too the waist in a full 2" by adding a pleat. I think it turned out cute and fits well now! I ran in it today and I felt awesome.

This afternoon, I've been obsessing over the skirts at runningskirts.com. I want to order something 'fun' and can't decide between choctreuse, chocqua, and navy/white (or the midnight...navy and light blue). I think I'm going with Chocqua and if it fits well, will put some other color on my Christmas list. :)

Obsessed? Maybe. Not sure why, but I think I need to abandon shorts in favor of skirts. I just do. Today I was thinking that I could potentially even swim in one and do a pool swim sprint tri entirely in a skirt...

Training for the Doggie Dash w/ Bandit is going not so well. Part of the concern has been leash training with him with distractions. I'm concerned about keeping him in control when surrounded with a bunch of running human/dog pairs. The other concern is my knees which haven't been the same after the half-marathon. I've openly reconsidered the race, but Husband thinks I'll be fine if I'm okay with starting at the back and walking as much as needed to keep Bandit under control and the knees in check. I really want to give it a go, so I just need to ultra-conservative on my approach to the event, and I think it will turn out okay.

  1. I love running skirts. There is just something so cool to me about getting all yucky and sweaty but still wearing a cute skirt. :>)

  2. Running skirts? whatever makes you feel good out there. I say dress for success.

Just have fun at the doggy thing, just watch your step during the race :)

  3. I get like that over stuff too. Once I get a lock on something I want, I feel the need to horde them and in every color available LOL

  4. Hey, way to get a bargain on the black skirt and make it just right! I did like the black one we saw best :)

Maybe your knees just need a little more time to recover from the half. If you do the race, I'd approach it as a slow, fun time with Bandit. My bigger dog would be like a hummingbird on speed if I tried to run with her around other dogs! I've decided not to do the 5K that day because my legs are still recovering from the marathon...I could tell this past week just from walking/hiking.

  5. I'm kinda with husband, keep the expectations low and just have fun with the pup in the back if you need to.

I probably need that pleat trick. I have one that is too big but it was only $4 -- how could I pass that up?

  6. I agree with Lisa..nothing like a hot runner lady in a cute skirt...I'm a pushover for them every time....especially now that Bonnie has a couple.

Do the doggy run thing...enjoy the time...even if you walk all of it...who will care...it sounds like a great fun time.

  7. I love skirts. I had to put my very own drawstring in the last skirt I bought - it felt great, but fell down as I ran... not such a good thing. I have a tri skirt that goes over tri shorts after coming out of the water. I love that too.

  8. I haven't quite got into the running skirt thing, but they are cute. Hope you find some colors you like! As for Bandit, I'm not sure how much leash training he is used to. I used to have a dog that literally stood on her hind feet when I walked or ran with her she pulled so hard. I also had another dog that was like a locomotive strong, and pulled me along. I was faster then, but still had to work at controlling him. The best thing is to give them no lead, just enough to not choke them, but keeping you in control of where they go and how fast or not. As they get better, you gradually give them a little more slack to see how they behave, if they do. Then its a little more, and more, until they are learning to go at your pace. Keep trying. Some dogs, like people, take a lot longer to catch on.

  9. Whatever it takes to motivate! I know new workout clothes always helps me. I haven't gotten into the skirts yet, but perhaps.... I need to try one on to check it out and run around the store to test it. ha ha.

  10. Running with a dog isn't easy, especially when the dog is surrounded by so much stimulation. But once he's accustomed to everyone there, he might settle into the run and be fine. Plus, that run will certainly tucker him out. Do you have a short leash? Like 4 feet long? That could keep him close to your side.

  11. You could see the doggie dash as your first race together and I'm sure there will be funny stories to tell. Also, how much slack do you have on your leash? When I need to really control Coop, I leave much less slack and he seems to know he should let me set the pace.
