Swimming again!

I did a recovery walk/jog Monday morning and thought about swimming the whole time. I love swimming. I have no idea why I didn't swim more often at my old gym before they shut down. The pool was absolutely gorgeous.

I'm actually not sure which I love more, swimming or running. My dream event is the aquathon, but they don't have those here in NM. So instead, I struggle at triathlon. Mind you, it's not that I'm much better at swimming or running than cycling, it's simply that I *love* swimming and running. Cycling...eh...not so much.

Anyway, I renewed my expired-for-over-a-year-and-a-half membership at Defined Fitness so that I could swim again. Sorry Cindy and GeekGirl, I'd really love to able to swim with each of you, but your fancy Sports & Wellness gym is too expensive for me. Besides, Defined in RR is close and I can easily fit in swimming before work.

The pool looked short to me. I timed my first 100 and quickly concluded that this *must* be a 25yd pool rather than a 25m pool because I was 15sec faster than my fastest 100 at the other gym and it sure as heck isn't from some sudden speed improvement. I proceeded to do a short 1250 yards workout today followed by some upper body strengh training. I don't love this pool, but I love swimming. I'm looking forward to going back on Thursday.

On my way out, I noticed that they gym has a Zumba class Fridays at 5pm. Has anyone done this? It sounds like fun. I just might check it out...

  5. You are so spoiled by B-1, huh? I had to get use to a "real gym pool" again a few months back-it took awhile..

  6. Yay for getting back into swimming! I think, I would have just accepted the pool length as meters without asking :-) You know... That whole "what you don't know won't hurt you" bit!!

  7. I'd love it if I could be better at it. :-) For now I love the bike, like running, and swimming and I are still early in our relationship.

  8. YAY for swimming! How nice that you love it...you are fast and you have great form :)

I had the same experience with the 25m/25yd thing. When I was swimming in a different pool, my times were so much better. It took me a while to figure out it was yards instead of meters though...just thought I was so amazing in that pool!

Yeah, S&W is pricey. I was lucky and got in at a time when they offerred a great deal because a new Defined Fitness was opening down the road.

  11. Good for you for getting back in the swimming groove again. I need to cross train more--I always hear about (and see) the benefits from others that Tri-train.

I've never heard of zumba--sounds interesting.

  16. Someone started an aquathlon series here a couple of years ago. They have about 6-8 each year and it seems to be pretty popular. Makes setting up the transition area easy. I did one and it was fun.

  18. I have not done Zumba, but they do have it at my gym. It does look like fun, but I've never had time to try it. Have fun with that! And glad you were able to get back into the water. You don't realize how much you miss it until you can't go.
