Preoccupied

I have so many excuses not to get outside and run. It's sad really. Yesterday and today, I blamed it on the weather. Any kind of moisture falling from the sky and I'm pretty sure it's not a good idea to run. Fair weather runner, that's me. Last week, I blamed it on the weather also. There wasn't any rain, but it was too cold. And before that...I forget, but I'm sure I had reason that made sense at the time. Yeah, I know, LAME. Sigh.

Tomorrow morning, I *will* head to the gym for strength training because it's never too cold outside to do weight work indoors. And strength training is the one thing that I have been consistent about in the past month.

So, you may wonder what the heck I have been doing since I've obviously been doing a whole lotta' nuttin' in the exercise department.

Quite honestly, I've been preoccupied with another goal. By Mid-March I hope to be able to commute on something way more environmentally friendly than my SUV. Specifically, I'm working toward my class W motorcycle endorsement so that I can start scootin' to work on something like this:

I might just start a second blog so as not to clutter this one with my new adventures in pursuit of becoming a "Scootin' Commuter". Or don't you mind coming along for that ride as well? Let me know what you think.

In any event, I think that my exercise/race goals for 2008 will become more clear once I'm no longer preoccupied with making this other thing happen.

*This photo is one of the scooters that I'm seriously considering. But not necessarily the one that I will end up with; I haven't made a final decision yet.

  1. Moisture falling from the sky .. can you drive the SUV when it rains? How often does it rain there?
Tornadoes in Wisconsin today.. because runners are wishing for spring.. and they sent tornadoes?
    Happy running to us all!

  3. Yeah get scoutin - I'm happy to hear about how you find that. Personally I wouldn't risk it over here, it's about as deathly as cycling to work - but that's because there's no real infrastructure and generally motorists are DUM!

As for not running in the rain... WIMP! ;o)

  4. I'd say leave it all over here, I'll read whatever's going on. I've considered the scooting thing, but there's a highway bridge between me and work that precludes that possibility. Good luck.

For me it's not the rain that deters running, it's the heat. Then again 90% of my running is on the treadmill so I guess I'm just a big wimp regularly.

  10. Can you drive that thing in races??

We have a bike ride across Iowa that is pretty popular, one year Tom Arnold did it on his motorcycle!! I think Lance Armstrong actually pedaled though. :D

  11. Cool Scooter. I love red.
Don't beat yourself up about the running. You'll get back into it. Good job on the weight training. That's what I need to get back into.

My first time at the gym this year was Friday January 4th and I've been sick in bed since. I'm ready to get back.

    Have a great '08

  13. Being preoccupied always tends to get in the way of best laid plans. I'm sure once you figure out what races you might want to do this year, you'll start on a training plan. Its hard to get started running on a treadmill too, but once you start it gets easier each time. Oh, and I don't mind reading about your scooter adventures, unless you want to start the Scooter Adventures blog.

  17. Wow - how fun! I'd love to hear about your scooting. And my supposed triathlon blog really has very little to do with triathlons the last 2 years...

  18. Awesome scooter! If I thought I could get a car seat, a pre-teen and all the related school, gym and work gear safely onto one of those things for the lengthy commute, I'd do it for sure. I'm so jealous! Let us know what you pick.
